Football, Boy Scouts, and Jesus
Dear St. Paul's Congregation,
This Sunday leads us to a very important scripture in Luke 5:1-11: The Call of the Disciples. What most of us don't realize is that this "call" of the disciples happened up to a year after John the Baptist had first introduced Peter, Andrew, James, John and the others to Jesus. They had been doing "day trips" with him for quite a while. Now, Jesus was calling them to get serious in their commitment. Hence the sermon title, "Getting Serious with God."
During Sunday's service, February 7, 2010...
- you will hear a short video testimony by Drew Brees, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
- all Boy Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms, as we will celebrate their 100th anniversary on Boy Scout Sunday, with Nathan Amiri receiving God and Me award in Second Service.
- Church Council and Spiritual Council leaders will be dedicated in both services.
- handbells will play "How Great Thou Art" in both services.
- Fern Black and her brother, Frederick Sewell, will play a 12 minute prelude in the first service: Sonata IV for Violin and Piano. COME EARLY.
- Worship Team will repeat the new Revelation Song they introduced last week.
Last week I was gone on a short vacation to Boston to see Grandchildren. When I came back, I heard so many reports of "God at work." Even though I enjoyed a great worship service at The Harbor church in Essex, MA, I also realized that God is always working at St. Paul's, and it is very encouraging to continue to stay in touch with my church family.
Hope to see you on Sunday before the game!
Pastor Mark
